Tonight the Sounders continued on their quest to pick up a third consecutive US Open Cup flying into the semi-finals, dominating the LA Galaxy 3-1 on two early goals by Nate Jaqua and Fredy Montero, and an insurance goal late in the second half by Lamar Neagle. Nate Jaqua nearly got the scoring started in the third minute, heading a ball from Montero straight into the post and into Josh Saunders' arms. He made up for that squandered opportunity just a minute later, beating the defense and just slipping the ball past Saunders. The Sounders continued looking incredibly dangerous, making the most of their possession in the attacking third of the field. They struck once again in the twenty fifth minute, Jaqua collecting the ball at the top of the box and passing to Montero who fires it home. After awhile the momentum began to shift into the Galaxy's favor, and in the fortieth minute they capitalized on that shift Chris Birchall crossing the ball across the box to Adam Cristman who banged it past a hopeless Terry Boss. The Sounders continued their domination in the second half, clinching the their semi-final berth on some brilliant play by Alvaro Fernandez who made an excellent pass into the box that Neagle pounced on and fired home.
